Residents in Ha Noi and Da Nang are advised against going outside today (14 July) if not necessary as the two cities are suffering from very high UV levels in the light of soaring mercury blanketing many parts nationwide over recent days and showing no signs of ending.

Today, Ha Noi and Da Nang embrace for the UV radiation that ranges at 8-10 levels, warned Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. This UV Index reading puts people at a very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.

Extra precautions should be taken for both skin and eyes because damage occurs quickly, typically within 15 minutes. It is a need to minimise sun exposure during peak sun times, but if not possible, then diligently apply and re-apply sunscreen and SPF lip balm.

The UV Index is an international standard measurement of the strength of ultraviolet radiation from the sun. It is designed as an open-ended linear scale, directly proportional to the intensity of UV radiation. An UV Index of between 0 and 3 is considered ‘low’, and above 11 is considered ‘extreme.’

In Da Nang, over the next coming days, thermometers are predicted to stand at highs of 33 and 35 degrees Celsius in the daytime, with the low humidity of 55 to 65%.

The hottest times of the day hover around 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

As the hot spell is highly exacerbated by low humidity, warnings of fire and explosion hazards, as well as a high risk of forest fire, have released by regional forcasters.
