Since Da Nang began the 15-day social distancing period on 28 July, the intersection of Ngo Gia Tu and Hai Phong streets leading to three hospitals placed under lockdown has become more bustling than usual as welcoming dozens of vehicles which are used to transport food and essentials to the hospitals’ staff every day.

During his visit to this area on Thursday morning, Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee Vice Chairman Le Van Minh expressed his delight at seeing a large number of all kinds of road vehicles, including 4-wheeled vehicles, motorbikes and even oxcarts, gathered at the intersection to carry essential supplies to frontline healthcare workers.

Mr Vo Ba Duong, an civil defense officer of Hai Chau District’s Thach Thang Ward, was drenched in sweat but  got actively involved in supporting the transportation of the donations to isolated areas.

“Since Tuesday morning, numerous individuals and organisations citywide have gathered at the intersection to provide essential supplies to the three hospitals. The donated items includes milk boxes, bottles of drinking water and fruits” Mr Duong said.

On 28 July, the Da Nang Red Cross Society launched the ‘Sharing Love - Joining the effort to contain the Covid-19 outbreak’ campaign to call on its members and residents citywide to support efforts to help their city tackle Covid-19.

As a result, the Society and its chapters have raised 5,000 surgical masks, 1,000 soap bars, 100 bags of liquid antibacterial hand wash, and 55 cans of disinfectant liquid with a total value of more than 50 million VND. All the donated items have been given to the 3 blockaded hospitals.

“Our organisation is planning to provide more essential supplies for frontline medical workers, and give surgical masks and soap bars to about 9,000 local residents” Mrs Le Thi Nhu Hong, Chairwoman of the city’s Red Cross Society said.

On 28 and 29 July, the Huong Lam Charity Club and the Youth Union organisation of Hai Chau District’s Binh Hien Ward together offered 850 carton boxes of bottled drinking water and 1,000 essential items to healthcare workers and patients at the Da Nang General Hospital. Also, they provide 120 free meals a day for staff at checkpoints of quarantine areas.

Meanwhile, the Dong Tien Bakery offers 500 free meals, each of bread, sweet cakes and a bottle of water, to the 3 hospitals every day. The meaningful action will run until 11 August.
