Testing airborne contaminants at Khanh Son Landfill and its nearby venues
Air sample is being taken at Khanh Son Landfill and its surrounding residential areas located in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang for testing airborne contaminants.
Air sampling on a section of Huynh Thi Bao Hoa is on track |
Sampling is done until 5 July by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment’s staff.
In detail, air samples are taken at the landfill, on Pham Thi Lam Anh Street, and at an intersection of Hoang Van Thai and Tra Na 3, and another one of Hoang Van Thai and Huynh Thi Bao Hoa.
The testing is focus on analysing such microclimate parameters as temperature, humidity, wind direction and wind speed, and the substances of NH3, H2S and Methyl mecarptan.
In addition, the monitoring staff also task themselves with assessing the frequency and the origin of odour at the landfill which might arise from leachate, garbage trucks and nearby livestock farming scrap collecting venues.
In order to alleviate leachate-caused sickening stench wafting off the burial sites and prevent rainwater from seeping into them, especially during the rainy season, till date, dumping areas which cover a total area of 14.2 ha at the landfill have been covered with large-sized water-proof tarpaulin sheets.
