Lockdown restrictions were lifted in Da Nang on 25 September by the municipal government following a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak being successfully contained in the city. Actually, there’s no end in sight to the pandemic until a successful coronavirus vaccine is widely available to all members of the public. Therefore, it is highly recommended for the people across Da Nang to stay highly vigilant, observe hygiene standards and practise healthy lifestyle habits in order to adapt to the ‘new normal’ to minimise exposure to the virus.

These statements were released by Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee cum Deputy Head of the municipal Steering Committee for the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Le Trung Chinh at the Saturday meeting to review Da Nang government’s response to tackle the coronavirus.

Da Nang has gone 30 straight days without recording a new local community transmission infection of the coronavirus.

Da Nang Department of Health Director Ngo Thi Kim Yen affirmed that the city’s success in bringing the virus under control has mainly attributed to the great solidarity and efforts by the city government and people across the city under the national government-directed motto of 'Fighting the epidemic is fighting the enemy', expansive testing, contact tracing and quarantining, and the sacrifice of economic growth for the sake of the safety of the people across Da Nang.

Also significantly, active support from the national government agencies and other localities nationwide helped strengthen city’s response to tackle the pandemic.

Till date, 327,342 people across Da Nang, making up for more than 30% of the city’s population, have had their swab and blood serum samples taken for coronavirus testing, Doctor Ton That Thanh, Director of the Da Nang Centre for Disease Control said.

The second wave of coronavirus in Da Nang following its elimination over one month is a sobering reminder of how the virus can evade the toughest defences. Therefore, importance will be attached to taking strict precautions with a closer eye on heavily - packed public areas when Da Nang is entering the phased transition to the new normal.

In particular, hospitals and medical centres across the city must be in full swing in taking appropriate measures to ensure the ultimate safety of their staff, patients and visitors in an attempt to make most effective adaptation to the new normal.
