A launch ceremony for 2021 Viet Nam Road Safety Year has recently taken place in Da Nang. The annual event aims to raise public awareness of road safety issues, and is intended to act as ‘the driver for positive change on Viet Nam roads. In addition, the event encourages road users to ‘Step up for Safe Streets’ and play a part in the creation of a safe and healthy future.

In his speech delivered at the launching ceremony, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam has commended Da Nang traffic police and relevant agencies for their efforts in ensuring the security and traffic safety over the past year.

Vice Chairman Nam remarked, last year, there were no prolonged traffic jams, whilst the number of road traffic accidents, especially the death tolls, dropped sharply. Da Nang people had higher level of private self-awareness in strictly obeying Viet Nam's national traffic regulations.

Vice Chairman Nam has remarked, in 2021, Da Nang targets to reduce the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries by between 5% and 10% compared to last year. Mr Nam also urged functional bodies to take drastic actions to ensure traffic safety of road users, especially over the forthcoming Tet holiday. Top priority should be given to raising public awareness of traffic safety, and increasing patrols and checks on streets across the city.
