Da Nang records remarkable achievements in social welfare programmes
Apart from boosting infrastructure development and economic growth, Da Nang has been focusing on effectively implementing many practical and meaningful programmes assisting those who gave great service to Viet Nam's national revolution. These programmes are considered as a move to promote the long-lasting national tradition of ‘when drinking water, think of its source’.
Specifically, numerous preferential policies have been offered to those who gave great service in Viet Nam's national revolution, including reduction or exemption for land use fees, plus monthly and Tet allowances.
On 11 January 2020, the authorities of Da Nang and Quang Nam Province together inaugurated a memorial stele of martyrs from the two localities at the Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery in Quang Tri Province.
The 40m2 1.3 billion VND work was funded by Da Nang government. It honours and commemorates 4 heroes and martyrs from Da Nang and 37 others from Quang Nam Province who sacrificed their lives on the legendary Truong Son trail during the anti-US resistance war.
In July 2020, Da Nang held a ceremony to posthumously present the ‘Heroic Vietnamese Mother’ title to 7 local women whose husbands and children sacrificed their lives for Viet Nam's national independence.
Till date, a combined total of 3,367 women have received the ‘Heroic Vietnamese Mother’ title, 138 of them are still alive. A monthly allowance of over one million VND is being given to each of these heroic Vietnamese mothers living across Da Nang.
In 2020 alone, over 27 billion VND in funding from Da Nang government went to help 875 social policy families to build their new houses or refurbish their damaged ones. Also, each of the social policy families received a 24-inch LED television. Da Nang is planning to repair or build 700 houses for local social policy families during 2021.
Over the past year, the refurbishment of martyrs' cemeteries in Da Nang has been carried out regularly. Of special note, candles have been lit at martyrs' cemeteries on the occasion of National Reunification Day (30 April), War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (27 July), National Day (2 September) and traditional Tet festival in commemoration of heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation’s re-unification.
In the time to come, Da Nang will continue its efforts to ensure the effective implementation of local social welfare programmes, and providing the best care for those who gave great service in the national revolution.
Most recently, Da Nang authorities have approved a new affordable housing scheme for poor social policy beneficiaries.
Additionally, Da Nang government has provided over 52 billion VND in funding to give Tet gifts, and grant allowances to poor social policy beneficiaries across the city.
The receivers include senior revolutionary veterans, very poor social policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, People's Armed Forces heroes, labour heroes, war invalids, and the families of martyrs.
