Ensuring peaceful and warm Tet for Da Nang people amid coronavirus fears

In order to prepare the best conditions for the general public to enjoy the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) 2021 festival amidst fears over COVID-19 resurgence which is raging in some Vietnamese localities, the Da Nang authorities have taken many necessary measures to keep coronavirus out of Da Nang, thus ensuring a warm and peaceful occasion.

Canceling festivals with large gatherings and securing the material and spiritual life of Da Nang people.

The municipal government has announced that Da Nang's Lunar New Year's Eve fireworks display will not be taking place this year in a bid to limit crowds over fears of coronavirus infections.

Till date, the municipal administration has also cancelled many large-scale cultural and entertainment activities featuring large public gatherings serving Tet, like the Spring Flower Festival scheduled to take place at the 29 March Park.

Likewise, an arts programme to ring in Tet, with the participation of artistes from the Trung Vuong Theater will not be held outdoors on Lunar New Year's Eve as scheduled, and it will be filmed and shown on the Da Nang TV channels on the evening of 30th day of the 12th lunar month, and the first day of the Lunar New Year. Meanwhile, some other small-scale activities still take place as planned provided COVID-19 preventive measures are put in place in a strict manner.

The screening of highly exciting feature movies and high quality documentaries will take place at the Tran Phu Street-based Le Do Theater.

The museums of Da Nang, Fine Arts, and Cham Sculpture will open to the public during Tet. On this special occasion, in addition to fixed exhibition space, the Museum of Da Nang is offering an exhibition on Vietnamese monetary over various periods, whilst the Da Nang Museum of Fine Arts is treating visitors with spring and zodiac animals-themed  exhibitions and the Dong Ho folk paintings.

In particular, Da Nang government has asked relevant agencies to pay attention to providing practical support for domestic migrant workers who cannot return to their hometowns for Tet celebration.

These workers are ready to enjoy this special occasion right at construction sites as the city is concentrating on pushing for the progress of its key project to keep them on track. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 resurgence in some Vietnamese localities has turned complicated, which lead to suspension on passenger transport services connecting Da Nang with them.

Tightening management of checkpoints set up at entry/ exit points to keep coronavirus out of Da Nang

Fourteen checkpoints have been set up at major entry and exit points in Da Nang in an effort to reduce the risk of bringing the deadly virus into the city amid the fresh resurgence of COVID-19 in some Vietnamese localities.

The checkpoints have been put in place at Ta Quang Buu Street, a section of Hoang Van Thai Street nearby the Khanh Son Landfill in Lien Chieu District, approach roads to the Hai Van Tunnel in Lien Chieu District, a section of 14G road at the foot of the Nui Than Tai Hot Spring Park, a section of National Highway No 14B nearby the De 89 Restaurant, the Tu Cau T-junction, the DT605 road leading to the Bo Bo Pine Forest, a Traffic Police Station in Hoa Vang District's Hoa Nhon Commune, the Cocobay Entertainment and Tourism Complex in Ngu Hanh Son District, the end point of Tran Dai Nghia Street in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward, the Da Nang Inter-Provincial Coach Station, the Da Nang Railway Station, the Da Nang Port, and the domestic passenger terminal at Da Nang Airport.

Healthcare workers, police officers, border guards, and volunteer students are staffing these checkpoints around the clock.

All arrivals to Da Nang, including foreigners, from other parts of Viet Nam are required to wear face coverings, fill out health declaration forms, and provide contact details and their Da Nang address in a bid to help local health officials to contact them if they have been in contact with suspected or confirmed case of the virus.

Major General Vu Xuan Vien, the Director of the municipal Public Security, said all officers and men on duty at the aforementioned checkpoints have always thoroughly grasped of the importance of ensuring safety for themselves and others. In parallel with this, heed will be paid to detecting and promptly handling suspicious cases of the coronavirus at the checkpoints to take appropriate intervention measures.
