Kind-hearted residents in Da Nang donate life-saving gifts of blood
Holding a desire to help others, members of the blood donation club Tu Tam Tho Quang based in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang, have always directly participated in emergency blood donation drives to save as many lives as they can. Understanding how important and noble blood donations are, they realise that with just some of their donated blood units, they can help save one person on the narrow ledge between life and death.

Since its official inception in July 2020 as a highly-meaningful initiative taken by the long-standing idea of active blood donor Nguyen Duy Hien, the 52-member club has donated more than 100 units of blood to medical facilities across Da Nang.
The club’s Head, himself, has given away his precious blood to save lives for 52 times. Not only is Hien always on standby in case his blood is needed for emergency medical use but he has also coordinated seamlessly activities for the club’s faithful donors to make sure the much-needed fluid gets to the right person promptly.
It was more praiseworthy as he vowed to keep giving his blood until he cannot. He would willing to put aside his personal errands to give blood to much-needed patients whenever he receives an urgent call from any hospitals in the city, regardless of how far he has to go and whether it is during the daytime or at night, even at odd hours, of course.
Likewise, Mr Le Ngoc Tu, the club’s Deputy Head, said he has donated his blood for 35 times. The kind-hearted man has enthusiastically participated in regular voluntary blood donation campaigns, and has willingly given in response to urgent appeals from local hospitals.
Tu underscored that giving blood is an act of charity honouring the love of humanity, and the precious blood drops will save many lives. He always feels very happy when he shares the joys and sorrows of life with others in life.
“Blood donations do not harm my health at all; by contras, I even feel better”, Tu happily said.
More recently, Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital announced an emergency case in which a woman faced postpartum hemorrhage following the birth of a baby and she was in desperate need of six units of group B blood to survive this unexpected deadly challenge.
At that time, soon after receiving an urgent call, Tu, in prompt fashion, put aside his personal affairs to be present at the hospital to donate his blood to the critically-ill patient.
Evaluating the effectiveness of the Tu Tam Tho Quang club in recent years, Chairman of the Tho Quang Ward’s Red Cross Chapter Pham Phuong Nam highly lauded this group for considerably contributing to both blood donation campaigns and charitable activities across the city.
Da Nang has the highest number of blood donors in the country, accounting for about 3.3% of its population.
The city now houses over 20 blood donor clubs with more than 585 members in total.
