Temporary anti-saline intrusion dams to be built on Cam Le River
In recent days, the salinity levels at the Cau Do (Red Bridge) Water Supply Plant’s raw water intake gates have been increased significantly.
In recent days, DAWACO has been sourced water from the An Trach Dam instead of from the Red Bridge River which has been suffered from severe salinity |
Most notably, at 3pm on Thursday, the highest salinity level recorded at these gates was 609 mg/l, two times higher than the allowed limits.
Currently, the An Trach Anti-Salinity Pumping Station is operating at full capacity to provide water for the Red Bridge Water Supply Plant to ensure the delivery of adequate tap water for homes and businesses across the city.
Of special note, last year, Da Nang government provided more than 360 billion VND of funding to raise the daily capacity of the An Trach Anti-Salinity Pumping Station.
The purpose of the project was to help the city deal with the risk of severe drought, salinity intrusion and water shortages during dry season.
Under the project, the daily capacity of sourcing water from the An Trach Dam located on Yen River will be increased from 210,000m3 to 420,000m3 for Cam Le District- based Cau Do (Red Bridge) Water Supply Plant. The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
However, the municipal Department of Construction is urging the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO) to prepare plans for building temporary anti-saline intrusion dams on the Cam Le River in a bid to ensure a sufficient amount of water for domestic purposes at all times as the aforementioned project has yet to be completed.
