Da Nang launches activitties to support Earth Hour 2021
Da Nang will mark Earth Hour 2021 on Saturday 27 March with practical activities to support action on global climate change.
Earth Hour, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm BST, began in 2007, is organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Earth Hour is now one of the world's largest grassroots movements for the environment. Held every year on the last Saturday of March, Earth Hour engages millions of people in more than 180 countries and territories around the world, switching off their lights to show support for our planet.
But Earth Hour goes far beyond the symbolic action of switching off - it has become a catalyst for positive environmental impact, driving major legislative changes by harnessing the power of the people and collective action.
Earth Hour was first organised by WWF in Viet Nam in 2009. Since 2012, the campaign has been organised annually to bring people together to reduce the impact of climate change and protect the environment.
The Earth Hour 2021 campaign has ‘Speak up for Nature’ as its theme.
In response to this year's campaign, all government departments and agencies, associations, organisations, businesses and homes across Da Nang will be asked to turn off nonessential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to save electricity.
Relevant local agencies will be responsible for displaying posters and banners about Earth Hour 2021 campaign on local streets to encourage local residents to save electricity.
