Last month, two sanitation workers in Da Nang were honoured and rewarded by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment for returning properties to owners who unintentionally drop them on the street. They are Du Thi Be, 47, and Nguyen Cuong, 56, both of whom now work for the Hai Chau District Environmental Establishment under the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC.

It is worth praising that these are among honest sanitation workers doing such good deeds, thus creating a beautiful image in the hearts of the public.

As his regular work routines, Cuong is usually cleaning up some sections of downtown Phan Boi Chau and Nguyen Du streets on which he has picked up properties five times and returned them to their owners over the past five years.

The most recent time was in late January 2021. At that time, the man found a wallet containing many important personal papers while doing street cleanups . Based on these findings, he managed to find way to the residence place of its owner for its return.

In another case, Cuong picked up a valuable item. Although his work shift was over, he still lingered awhile on the street to wait for its owner.

Like Cuong, Be found and returned a valuable mobile phone worth about 20 million VND to its owner who unintentionally dropped it on the street in early February. Despite her family's difficult circumstances and hard work, Be only hoped to find its owner because she has always kept in her mind that “clean fast is better than a dirty breakfast”.

The honourees were honoured and commended for their good deeds. Besides, like their co-workers from the Da Nang Urban Environment JSC, these people have been actively involved in cleaning up main roads and collecting domestic waste in a bid to ensure the green, clean and beautiful urban landscape.

According to Mr Tran Huu Giac, an official from the Hai Chau District Environmental Establishment, sanitation workers can easily pick up valuable assets unintentionally left on the street as cell phones, wallets and handbags, and then return all of them to their owners.

The recipients were both very delighted to get their missing properties back. They thanked the sanitation workers, and praised them for their kindness and honesty.

Such above-mentioned honesty residents with their good deeds are considered to be an enthusiastic and friendly ‘tourism ambassador’ in a bid to advertise Da Nang’s image to domestic and international friends.
