The female patient, a native of HCM City, was among the Vietnamese returnees from the U.S. on a repatriation flight which was in transit at South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, and then landed at the Da Nang International Airport on 13 January 2021.
Upon arrival at Da Nang Airport, she and other passengers, along with flight crew members received medical check-ups, and all of them were sent to a quarantine facility in Da Nang in line with the Vietnamese regulations.
On 14 January, the patient tested positive for COVID-19, and she was immediately transferred to the Da Nang Lung Hospital for treatment.
In addition to her coronavirus infection, the patient also suffered from such serious pre-existing medical conditions as hypertension, Type 2 diabetes (T2D), heart failure, and the complications of recovering multiorgan failure and exhaustion.
According to Doctor Le Thanh Phuc, the hospital’s Director, the patient is showing good health improvements. Her heart, liver and kidney diseases have been considerably improved, whilst venous thrombosis has gradually decreased.
It was known that the Da Nang Lung Hospital doctors, their highly qualified colleges from other large domestic hospitals and medical experts from the Ministry of Health jointly mapped out an appropriate treatment regimen for the patient’ physical condition and pathology. At one point, her recovery was really “miraculous” among patients with serious comorbidities.
