Many young people feel happy as they give their blood to save lives. Nguyen Minh Trung, 25, hailing from Quang Nam Province is a typical example.
Trung is an active member of Lien Chieu Distric-based ‘Ban Mai Xanh’ Blood Donor Club. Till date, he has donated blood and platelets 41 times.
“Every time I donate blood, I feel happy to do meaningful work, especially to help patients who are in urgent need of blood to maintain their lives” Trung said.
Apart from regularly participating in voluntary blood donation campaigns across Da Nang, Trung usually donates platelets every two months to serve the urgent medical treatment for needy patients.
Also, Trung is always willing to give blood if he receives an urgent call from a hospital in Da Nang, regardless of whether it is day or night.
Trung recalled his most memorable memory on 29th day of the 12th lunar month in 2019. He received an urgent call from the Da Nang Cancer Hospital to ask for help about platelet donation while he is staying in his hometown in Tam Ky, Quang Nam Province. After receiving the call, he immediately rode his motorbike to Da Nang to donate platelets.
“Although I had to ride through the night, I felt happy when I could save a life”, Trung said.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hien from Da Nang, leader of the ‘Ban Mai Xanh’ Blood Donor Club, has been known as the club’s only female member who regularly participates in platelet donation campaigns.
Hien said that giving blood is an act of charity honouring the love of humanity, and the precious blood drops will save many lives. “Blood donations do not harm my health at all; by contras, I even feel better”, said the kind-hearted woman.
Trung and Hien are just two among the 25 key members of the ‘Ban Mai Xanh’ Blood Donor Club, and among thousands of voluntary blood donors across Lien Chieu District, who are always willing to donate blood for needy patients.
Vice Chairman of the Lien Chieu District chapter of the Da Nang Red Cross Society Ngo Van Nhung remarked, over recent years, the ‘Ban Mai Xanh’ Blood Donor Club has been active to participate in the district-launched blood donation drives.
Last year, more than 1,390 units of blood were collected at the district-launched blood donation campaigns, much higher than the target set by the city. Specially, young people in the district donated 316 units of blood in the first city-launched blood donation campaign in 2021.
