Da Nang launches new campaign to tackle harassment of tourists and itinerant beggars

Da Nang will launch a new campaign which will run from April 20 until May 25 to tackle the harassment of tourists, illegal street vendors and itinerant beggars in the city.

In addition, local functional forces will conduct investigation into organised and forced begging, as well as the use of children, people with disabilities, and older people  for begging purposes.  

Da Nang government is urging relevant agencies to raise public awareness about the negative impact of the harassment of tourists, illegal street vendors and itinerant beggars on the image of the city, as welll as encourage the public aross Da Nang to say no to these situations.

Strict punishment will be imposed on violators, and criminal liability will be introduced under Vietnamese laws.

Itinerant beggars who are children, older people, disabled people, those with mental health problems, will be facilitated to temporarily live in the city’s centres for social protection.
