The above- mentioned fact was confirmed by municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang at the Thursday meeting with competent local agencies in the implementation of wastewater and waste treatment projects across the city over recent times.

According to a report released by the Department of Construction, wastewater collection and treatment systems across the city have been completed basically in a synchronous manner.

The rate of wastewater collection in urban areas now reaches more than 80% (not including Hoa Vang District).

At present, the total daily capacity of existing wastewater treatment plants has reached 180,500m3. When new wastewater treatment stations such as Lien Chieu and Son Tra are put into operation, the total daily capacity recorded in the whole city will increase to 340,500m3, thereby wastewater-triggered environmental pollution will be thoroughly resolved, especially the eastern coastal area and Da Nang Bay, said Deputy Director of Construction Department Vo Tan Ha.

Based on the practical situation, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment To Van Hung underlined a must-do to speed up the construction of the daily-life solid waste treatment plant with a daily capacity of 1,000 tonnes, and develop a solid waste management and recycling model in the city by 2025.

Also, it is necessary to attract investment inflows into the building of other plans to treat hazardous waste, septic tank sludge and solid waste buried in the Khanh Son landfill.

Work should start as soon as possible on the construction of solid waste transfer stations on Le Thanh Nghi, Hai Chau District and Nguyen Duc Trung, Thanh Khe District.

In his instructions at the event, Party Secretary Quang said that the city has done well in the development of many environmental improvement projects for the sake of better socio-economic progress. However, in the coming time, functional local agencies should focus on completing put-in-progress key projects on the collection and treatment of wastewater and trash across the city.

In particular, the city Party chief urged relevant local agencies to remove any barriers to the construction of a solid waste treatment plant with a daily capacity of 1,000 tonnes, an energy-from-waste incineration plant with a daily capacity of 650 tonnes, and garbage transfer stations in the Hai Chau, Son Tra and Cam Le districts.

The city has set a target of collecting 95% of solid waste for treatment over the 2019 – 2025 period, with 12% and 15% to be recycled and reused in 2020 and 2025 respectively.

By 2025, the whole of Da Nang will have implemented the sorting of domestic solid waste at families, and 100% of industrial parks and production establishments, service providers, and government agencies and organisations will have classified waste at the source.
