According to Vice Chairman of the Hoa Vang People’s Committee Nguyen Thuc Dung, on Friday morning, a group of third graders bought a box of slime at a store near the school. Many of their classmates also played the toy. Just after a short period of time, these players faced vomiting and breathing difficulty, and all of them were rushed to hospital for treatment. The school temporarily closed for sterilisation.

An initial probe revealed that the hospitalised pupils were poisoned by the slime toy products.

By the afternoon of the same day, 14 poisoned pupils were discharged from hospital after making full recovery, whilst 15 others were still receiving treatment at the Hoa Vang District General Hospital with their health being in a stable condition. Of the six victims currently being treated at the Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, five have significantly recovered, whilst the remaining one was treated in the emergency ward due to a congenital heart disease.

Currently, the municipal Department of Education and Training is working with the district-level authorities to conduct into investigation into this poisioning case.

Slime products have surged in popularity in recent years. Thanks to its enchanting appearance and delightfully malleable texture, it's one of the most popular toys among children. But recent international reports have revealed that slime-based toys could be causing more harm than good, containing high levels of a chemical linked to convulsions, diarrhoea, and impaired fertility.
