At round 9:00am on Sunday, the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) received an SOS message from fishing boat DN 91053 TS.
The boat’s captain, Mai Dang Dung, 51, residing in An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District, was beaten by a winch in his face, which caused him to suffer a severe blood loss, deep wounds, and protruding muscles.
Falling into a critical situation with multiple serious injuries, Dung was in a desperate need of immediate emergency as soon as possible to save his life and avoid dangerous sequelae.
The unexpected occupational accident happened while the boat operating in waters about 120 nautical miles off the Da Nang coast.
In a prompt fashion, Viet Nam MRCC asked the Da Nang MRCC to send out its rescue ship SAR 274, carrying doctors from the Da Nang-based Emergency Centre 115, to help the victim.
At around 4:20pm on the same day, SAR 274 arrived at the scene. The injured fisherman was transferred to the rescue ship for initial first aid, and he was then safely brought back to the mainland for further treatment.
