The Lien Chieu District Police in Da Nang on Friday imposed a total of VND25 million in fines on a 56-year-old woman in Hai Chau District and another one, 45, residing in Son Tra District for the act of ‘spreading false information to damage the reputation of the organisation’.

Previously, on the morning of May 20, the 56-year-old woman posted on social medica channels an appeal for financial donations for those who are subject to quarantine in the Kinh Duong Vuong apartment building in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District. Under the her appeal, she used exaggerated, untruthful words misrepresenting the living conditions of the quarantined. Her post went viral on Facebook, attracting a large number of ‘likes’ and comments.

Meanwhile, the 45-year-old woman shared the above-mentioned illegal post on her personal Facebook page without identifying its false information.

The two women were administratively punished for taking advantage of social networks to provide fake information on agencies and organisations, adversely affecting the city’s fight against the virus resurgence and harming social security during preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure tomorrow, May 23.
