EVN donates VND 30 billion to COVID-19 vaccine fund

Viet Nam Electricity Group (EVN) on Friday donated VND 30 billion (US$1.3 million) to the COVID-19 vaccine fund in a bid to support the country’s efforts to fight against the deadly virus as well as ensure social welfare and people’s wellbeing.

At the headquarters of the Ministry of Health in Ha Noi, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Minister of Health, on behalf of the country’s whole medical staff, sincerely thanked EVN for its timely and practical donations to COVID-19 vaccine fund, thus contributing to fighting against the virus resurgence.

Till date, the total amount that EVN and its member companies have spent a total of VND 37.6 billion helping for provinces and cities heavily affected by COVID-19 as well as supporting nationwide pandemic prevention activities.

The fund aims to receive funding from domestic and foreign organisations and individuals, as well as other legal capital sources for for the COVID-19 vaccine procurement and import, research and production in the country, and the provision of vaccines for people.

Following the directions of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Viet Nam on the policy of purchase of vaccines against COVID-19 for the people using the state budget and other legal financial sources, the Government issued a resolution on COVID-19 vaccine purchase and use.

Under the resolution, Viet Nam aims to secure 150 million doses of vaccines to immunize 75% of its population this year, and the cost is estimated at VND25.2 trillion ($1 billion). Of the total, about VND16 trillion is expected to come from the State budget, while the remaining VND9.2 trillion will be sourced from the local budgets and contributions by businesses and organisations.
