Female nurse now stable after being hospitalised due to COVID-19 vaccine complications

Doctors at the Da Nang General Hospital said on May 17 that a female nurse who experienced severe allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis, after getting a COVID-19 vaccine, is now stable with no sequelae, and she will be discharged from hospital soon.

Doctor Hoang Huu Hieu from the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, who directly participated in direct patient care by providing emergency care for the female nurse, said that, the resuscitation team at the hospital quickly performed first aid for cardiac arrest requiring requiring endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.

The patient was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, and she got special care and underwent continuous hemodialysis.

“3 days after receiving intensive care, she was gradually improved. All measures of her organ function were within normal limits. She no longer needed mechanical ventilation and continued to monitor. She is now stable with no sequelae and will be discharged from hospital soon after after being treated there for a week." said doctor Hoang Huu Hieu.

On May 10, the Da Nang Department of Health confirmed that a 31-year old female nurse at Da Nang Hospital experinced anaphylaxis after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Immediately, Da Nang Hospital temporarily suspended and sealed the entire batch of the above COVID-19 vaccine to work with local authorities to monitor and evaluate.
