Baking weather predicted to rage for over a week in Da Nang
The ongoing heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected to linger into many coming days in localities stretching from Nghe An to Phu Yen, including Da Nang, warned the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The unpleasant weather pattern, which is predicted to last for one week till June 21, is caused by the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region, soaring heatwave conditions.
These aforementioned localities are being blanketed by the sweltering temperatures of 35 and 38 degrees Celsius, even hotter in some of their parts.
The lowest humidity is forecast to be measured at 50 - 65%.
The mercury is likely to reach above 35 degrees Celsius from 10:00am to 7:00pm.
The stifling heat forces local residents to sweat profusely and struggle to relieve its undesirable effects.
Da Nang, from today to July 2, is projected to witness sunny days with the highs of 37 - 38 degrees Celsius.
Many residents are advised against going outside if not necessary.
Road users are seen cover almost entirely from head to toe in combinations of helmets, sunglasses, facemasks, long sleeves, gloves, long pants, and socks, and a “covering dress”, a garment akin to a kitchen apron that covers women’s legs to limit their exposure to burning sunshine, all of which leave no inch of their bodies uncovered.
It is quite common for a heat wave to last 17 to 18 days in Central Viet Nam. The most intense heat wave to have struck the region occurred in 2015, lasting for up to 39 days.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned of high risks of fire and explosion at local residential areas and forests due to the hot and dry weather.
