The ongoing heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected to linger into coming days in Central Viet Nam due to the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region, warned the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Today, Da Nang and elsewhere in Northern and Central Viet Nam regions are being blanketed by the sweltering temperatures of 38 and 41 degrees Celsius, even hotter in some of their parts. The lowest humidity is measured at 40 - 55%.

From tomorrow onwards, the heat’s intensity is projected to show signs of subsiding in Northern Viet Nam and is likely to end on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in Central Viet Nam, the mercury could decrease a bit, but the unpleasant heat will still linger into the coming days.

Da Nang, from Tuesday to Friday, is projected to witness sunny days with the highs of 37 - 39 degrees Celsius.

Local residents must struggle to relieve its undesirable effects to ensure their health whilst businesses are making many appropriate adjustments in their operations in a bid to keep production on stream in face of the harsh weather.

According to the national forecasters, from June 21 to June 30, provinces and cities in the Central Viet Nam is witnessing relatively little rain with a 10-day average rainfall ranging from 20 to 40mm, 20 - 50mm lower than the average recorded in the same period of previous years.

Scattered shower is mainly registered in the evening, whilst the daytime suffers sunny conditions, especially extreme hot weather recorded in some western mountains.

Total flow volume in rivers is predicted to be 10-55% lower than the average recorded in the same period of previous years.

Drought and water shortage outside the water supply area of the irrigation works will continue to occur in the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, and Ninh Thuan.
