Today, June 2, the heat wave is showing no signs of subsiding in Da Nang as its mercury remains as high as 36 - 38 degree Celsius, even higher in some of its parts. However, the real-feel temperature is even higher during the daytime, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said in its latest bulletin.

The stifling heat forces local residents to sweat profusely and struggle to relieve its undesirable effects.

The mercury reaches above 35 degrees Celsius from 9:00am to 3:30 pm.

Meanwhile, other localities in Central Viet Nam, is witnessing the higher mercury of 38 - 40 degree Celsius.

Many residents are advised against going outside if not necessary. Road users are seen cover almost entirely from head to toe in combinations of helmets, sunglasses, facemasks, long sleeves, gloves, long pants, and socks, and a “covering dress”, a garment akin to a kitchen apron that covers women’s legs to limit their exposure to burning sunshine.

The current intense heat wave that is ‘baking’ Da Nang and other localities in Central Viet Nam is highly likely to last until this weekend, said the national forecaster.

Northern and central localities would brace for about 3-4 extreme heat waves this month.

In particular, over the next days, ultraviolet (UV) rays at high risk levels with the readings of 8 - 10 are predicted to hit the localities of Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Hạ Long in Quang Ninh Province, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An in Quang Nam Province, Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province, HCM City, Can Tho, and Ca Mau.

Staying out of the sun is the best way to avoid sun damage. Other precautions should be taken for both skin and eyes include using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding direct sunlight around midday when UV rays are strongest.

Due to the influence of the hot weather combined with the low humidity in the air and the strong southwest wind, there is a high risk of fire in residential areas due to the increasing electricity consumption, and potential forest fires in the central provinces
