Mr Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, the Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People's Council on Monday afternoon called on officials to work in partnership with local authorities to put in place strict measures to control the spread of COVID-19 at food processing and wholesale sites across the food supply chain in Da Nang.

“Many confirmed cases are linked to the two major food supply chain points in the city, namely the Da Son Slaughterhouse and the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf. Of which,  the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf has been forced to shut after a rise in coronavirus cases. Therefore, it's crucial to mitigate risks and ensure everything runs smoothly at the Da Son Slaughterhouse in efforts to avoid any disruption of Da Nang food supplies”, said Mr Triet.

Mr Triet also demanded stricter oversight of such high-risk settings as wet markets and their surroundings in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus.

Municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh called for proactive steps to set up managed isolation sites in each of districts across the city. The focus should be enhancing surveillance of returnees from COVID-19 affected areas, and keeping a close watch on people who have completed their compulsory quarantine period and those who are asked to self-isolate, in their places of residence.

Chairman Chinh also directed functional forces to enforce regulations to have toughest penalties for non-adherence to the city’s new restrictions.
