Da Nang ready to take even more drastic measures to tackle COVID-19

Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang on Thursday afternoon called for more drastic measures to combat COVID-19 as a more transmissible variant of Covid-19 fuels a surge in infections and hospitalizations in the city.

The city Party chief highlighted huge efforts the health agency and relevant units have made to ramp up contact tracing, isolating and testing efforts to quickly detect new infections and identify COVID hotpots in a bid to slow the spread of the virus.

“Da Nang introduced stricter measures to control the spread of the virus in the past week but the results lagged behind expectations. Cases are rising as the highly contagious Delta variant spreads across the city. It is clear that we need to do more to bring this new variant under control. We will maximize available resources to implement the most appropriate strategies for responding to COVID-19 in order to halt disease spread and break virus transmission in accordance with the guidelines from Viet Nam’s national government”, emphasised Mr Quang.

Secretary Quang urged officials to pay special attention to providing timely and practical support for struggling families amid COVID-19 crisis in addition to encouraging every one across the city to stick to the city’s new restrictions to keep themselves and others safe.

Doctor Ton That Thanh, the Director of the municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Doctor Ngo Thi Kim Yen, the Director of municipal Department of Health called on officials from district authorities and relevant agencies to take stronger action to identify all contacts of new cases faster and more effectively as well as implement best practices for managing potential COVID-19 case clusters.
