The next phase of Da Nang’s vaccination drive began today, July 29, in which, the Tien Son Sports Arena will provide Moderna vaccine for frontliners who are currently helping in the fight against COVID-19 such as members of steering committees for COVID-19 prevention and control at municipal and district levels, essential service workers, along with people at higher risk from COVID-19.

We have observed at this vaccination site that strictest health measures are being put in place in efforts to keep health workers and vaccine recipients safe. Police, military personnel, militia, union members and volunteers are guiding people who come to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to queue and keep a safe distance from others, have their body temperature checked, and declare their health status while waiting for their turn.

Healthcare workers from Hai Chau and Ngu Hanh Son district medical centers get involved in the implementation of COVID-19 vaccination. About 1,100 people will be vaccinated in a session/day in this venue.

Healthcare workers from the Hai Chau District Medical Center take responsibility for six areas for injection while their colleagues from the Ngu Hanh Son District Medical Center take charge of 5 others. Not more than 100 people are allowed to get vaccinated in each area in a session/day.

People who come to get vaccinated are required to undergo medical checks, and they are provided with medical advice and post-vaccination observation. Health workers are prepared to treat immediate allergic reactions after vaccination.

Doctor Ngo Thi Kim Yen, the Director of the Da Nang Department of Health, said that the vaccinations will be carried out in two vaccination centres, namely the Tien Son Sports Arena and the Cancer Hospital, for 5 days.

33,600 doses of Moderna vaccine will be delivered in two batches to Da Nang by Vietnamese Ministry of Health in order to allow 16,800 people across the city to receive two full doses.

The city will prioritise offering about 1,000 doses to people at higher risk from COVID-19.

“Da Nang has the capacity to administer up to 20,000 vaccinations a day as there are enough COVID-19 vaccine doses in the city to fully inoculate everyone eligible. The health agency is boosting its efforts to ensure smooth vaccination process”, said Director Yen.
