Aug.18 sees daily surge of 134 COVID-19 cases in Da Nang, including 34 detected in the community
Da Nang reported 134 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, August 18, of which, 87 were in managed isolation, 13 were identified in local locked-down areas and the remainder were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.
Out of the community-acquired cases, 29 were detected from the ‘one door-one test’ campaign conducted across the city. Under this campaign, the only one representative of each local family who is aged over18 tests for the virus.
It is highly concerning that 81 out of the 134 positive cases recorded on Wednesday were linked to the high-risk cluster of infections at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam. Total number of infected patients involved in this infection chain has climbed to 364 till date, of whom 190 are traders and labourer working at the market, 18 were shoppers and 156 were direct/indirect contacts.
Son Tra District saw a slight decline in the infection number with 17 positive cases recorded on Wednesday.
It is highly concerning that, out of the above-mentioned 134 cases of COVID-19, 27 were of unknown source of infection, and founded via the ‘one door-one test’ approach in the districts of Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Cam Le, Lien Chieu and Ngu Hanh Son.
The total 134 COVID-19 cases ware recorded at the same time in many districts, namely 39 cases in Hai Chau, 24 in Thanh Khe, 23 in Cam Le, 19 in Ngu Hanh Son, 17 in Son Tra, 7 in Lien Chieu and 5 in Hoa Vang.
The total infections recorded in the city have risen to 2,138 since July 10.
