Da Nang documents new high of 202 COVID-19 infections on Aug.27, with community-acquired cases standing at 11
Da Nang confirmed 202 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, August 27, of which, 93 were in designated quarantine facilities, 43 were self-isolating at home, 55 were identified in local zoned-off areas and the remaining 11 were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.
As for community-acquired cases, eight symptomatic cases were discovered during examinations at local medical establishment across the city due to the showing of suspicious symptoms.
In detail, there were two patients detected at the Thanh Khe District Medical Centre, one patient visiting Tam Tri Hospital following the completion of managed quarantine, one having nasal swab sample for COVID-19 testing at home, one being hospitalized for periodic treatment at the Da Nang Oncology Hospital, one visiting to the Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, one employee of the Matrix Company testing for the virus before performing work shift transition to other colleagues, and one medical staff at the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Tam Tri Hospital.
The remaining three community cases were detected via the citywide ‘one door-one test’ campaign applied to all households, with two cases in Hoa Cuong Nam and Hoa Cuong Bac wards in Hai Chau District, and one in Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District.
It is highly concerning that four out of the community –acquired cases recorded on Friday were of unknown source of infection.
As calculated, the chain of infection arising from the local lockdown areas in Son Tra District recorded 11 new cases, whilst an additional 60 new cases were recorded via the testing on the representatives of all local households.
The infection cluster at the shut-down Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam, is still at a high risk with the detection of 104 cases on Friday, bringing the total infections to 1,302 till date, comprising 234 traders working at the market, 49 were shoppers and 1,019 were direct/indirect contacts.
Amongst the local districts, Thanh Khe recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases on the review day with 72, followed by Hai Chau with 61 infections, Cam Le with 38, Hoa Vang with 11, Lien Chieu with seven, Ngu Hanh Son with two.
The day's number has pushed the city’s tally in the ongoing wave since July 10 to 3,657.
