Da Nang leader urges citizens to stay at home as much as possible to help their city tackle COVID-19

Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam on Saturday afternoon urged local citizens to stay at home as much as possible to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in light of delta variant. He also asked officials to only issue new travel permit form for people who need to leave home with reasonable excuses.

Da Nang on August 7 recorded 62 new cases of COVID-19, of which, 40 were in managed isolation, 19 were detected in local lockdown areas and 3 were community-acquired infections, the Office of the City People's Committee’s latest figure showed.

Colonel Tran Dinh Chung, the Deputy Director of the municipal Police Department, said that Da Nang on August 7 saw a decrease in the number of people travelling on roads due to the effects of growing police officers and increased police patrols on streets and residential settings for taking actions against anyone who leave home without a valid reason or break COVID-19 rules.

Dr. Ton That Thanh, the Director of the Da Nang Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, said that there were no new cases reported in Hai Chau and Hoa Vang districts on Saturday.

 “All three positive cases in the community on August 7 were identified in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward in Lien Chieu District. The urgent action is needed to lockdown COVID-19 hotspots in Lien Chieu District and ramp up testing efforts for contacts of new cases. In addition, active cases were confirmed in two persons who have completed their mandatory quarantine period and are self-isolating for monitoring their health in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidance," said Dr. Thanh.

Son Tra District People's Committee Chairman Hoang Son Tra said that local authorities on August 7 spent VND 6.1 billion to support people in 5 wards in local lockdown, bringing total fiscal support to VND 11 billion till date.

“Hoa Vang District also provided 10 tonnes of vegetables and fruits free of charge for people in local lockdown areas. In addition, the district also ordered an additional 50 tonnes of vegetables and fruits for these people to meet their daily needs" remarked Mr. Hoang Son Tra.

Vice Chairman Nam said that daily COVID-19 infections have declined in Da Nang over recent days, a milestone that has both been welcomed and brought warnings against complacency.

He called for continued monitoring of steps taken for controlling COVID-19 in efforts to contain the pandemic as soon as possible.

The city leader directed the Authority of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks to enhance monitoring of businesses under their management to make sure that they are complying with advice and guidance on infection prevention and control from the municipal government and health bodies to keep their workplaces safe.
