Da Nang records new daily high of 120 coronavirus cases on Aug.17, including 9 acquired in the community
Da Nang confirmed 120 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, August 17, of which, 91 were in managed isolation, 20 were identified in local lockdown areas and the remainder were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.
Out of the 9 community-acquired cases, of which 4 were persons who joined COVID-19 prevention and control forces in the Hoa Thuan Dong and Hoa Cuong Nam wards in Hai Chau District, Hoa Minh Ward in Lien Chieu District and Hoa Xuan Ward in Cam Le District. The remaining 5 ones were discovered during their checkups at local medical facilities due to the showing off some suspicious symptoms and from the ‘one door-one test’ campaign in at-risk areas, including traders and shoppers to the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market.
It is highly concerning that 84 out of the 120 positive cases recorded on Tuesday were linked to the high-risk cluster of infections at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam, bringing to total infections here to 280 till date.
The chain of infection in blockaded areas in Son Tra District is still at high risk with 23 positive cases recorded on Tuesday.
It is highly concerning that, out of the above-mentioned 120 cases of COVID-19, 8 were of unknown source of infection, namely one taken from the ‘one door-one test’ campaign in Hoa Phat Ward, Cam Le District, one detected during examinations at Cam Le District Medical Centre and 6 were in Hoa Son Commune, Hoa Vang District.
The total infections recorded in the city have climbed to 1,999 since July 10.
