Da Nang reports 109 COVID-19 infections on Aug.28, with community-acquired cases down to 5

Da Nang confirmed 109 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, August 28, of which, 50 were in designated quarantine facilities, 20 were self-isolating at home, 34 were identified in local zoned-off areas and the remaining 5 were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.

Out of the 5 community-acquired cases, 2 symptomatic patients who came for examination and testing at local medical facilities. In detail, one was a man detected at the Hoan My Hospital and had previously tested negative for COVID-19on August 25, his wife is a trader at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market who tested negative for the virus twice via the ‘one door-one test’ campaign on August 18 and 23, respectively. The other was a symptomatic patient found during examinations at the Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, exposed to an infected employee at the Daiwa company, and he had tested negative for the virus twice on August 19 and 22.

As for the remaining 3 community-based cases, there were 2 patients who had visited the Hoa Xuan Market related to Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market’s infection chain, and then had negative test results via the ‘one door-one test’ campaign. The other with symptoms was reported at the Binh Hien Ward Medical Station, Hai Chau District, testing negative for the virus three times on August 17, 19 and 22, respectively. This patient had passed through the alley No. 354 Trung Nu Vuong where previous infections were documented.

As calculated, the chain of infection arising from the local lockdown areas in Son Tra District recorded 8 new cases, whilst an additional 26 new cases were recorded via the testing on the representatives of all local households.

The infection cluster at the shut-down Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam, is still at a high risk with the detection of 70 cases on Saturday bringing the total infections to 1,372 till date, comprising 234 traders working at the market, 49 were shoppers and 1,089 were direct/indirect contacts.

Amongst the local districts, Hai Chau recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases on the review day with 45, followed by Cam Le with 27, Thanh Khe 14, Lien Chieu with 12, Hoa Vang with 5 and Ngu Hanh Son with two.

The day's number has pushed the city’s tally in the ongoing wave since July 10 to 3,766.
