Da Nang reported 79 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, August 15, of which, 67 were in managed isolation, 3 were identified in local lockdown areas and the remainder were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.
Out of the 9 community-acquired cases, 4 are stall holders operating at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam and their children. They had previously come to medical facilities for checkups and COVID testing due to the displaying of some suspicious symptoms. The remaining 5 were detected from large-area testing due to links to previous positive cases.
It is highly concerning that 50 out of the 79 positive cases were linked to the high-risk cluster of infections at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, bringing to total infections here to 137 till date, of which 100 are traders.
The chain of infection in the blockaded areas in Son Tra District is now witnessing a decrease in casenumbers. On Sunday, this district recorded 19 cases of COVID-19, all of which were detected during managed isolation. Notably, its Nai Hien Dong Ward, a hot spot related to the infection chain at the Tho Quang fishing wharf, recorded no infections for the first time.
The total infections recorded in the city have climbed to 1,779 since July 10.
