Da Nang sees daily surge of 197 COVID-19 cases on Aug.21, including 43 community-acquired cases

Da Nang confirmed 197 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, August 21, of which, 75 are managed isolation, 44 were self- isolating at home, 35 were in local locked-down areas and the remaining 43 were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control reported.

Out of the community-acquired cases, 35 were found from the citywide ‘one door-one test’ campaign, 2 were the close contacts of confirmed cases of unknown sources, and 6 were detected during examinations at medical facilities.

It is highly concerning that the high-risk cluster at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam, showed no signs of subsiding with 104 cases detected on Saturday.

Total number of infected patients involved in this infection chain has climbed to 699 till date, of whom 217 are traders and labourers working at the market, 37 were shoppers and 445 were direct/indirect contacts.

It is highly concerning that, out of the above-mentioned 197 cases, 54 were of unknown source of infection, of which some were founded via the ‘one door-one test’ approach and during examinations at medical facilities due to suspicious symptoms. In particular, one case involves a sanitation worker at the Hoan My Da Nang Hospital.

August 21’s total infections were recorded in many districts, with 57 cases in Hai Chau, 37 in Thanh Khe, 51 in Cam Le, 15 in Ngu Hanh Son, 13 in Son Tra, 12 in Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang each.

The total infections recorded in the city have risen to 2,661 since July 10.
