Both Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang and municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh on Monday afternoon affirmed that stronger measures have been effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19 but the city still faces a high risk of resurging coronavirus infections.

Therefore, Da Nang leaders are asking continued vigilance to keep case counts in check, protect green zones and promote the expansion of such zones in the city.

Secretary Quang remarked that the city’s case counts on Monday were down by nearly half compared to the previous day, stating the success in combating COVID-19 in Da Nang is the direct result of great efforts of the municipal government and relevant agencies, as well as the public’s support of mitigation measures recommended by health bodies.

Notably, Son Tra and Hoa Vang district recorded zero new COVID-19 cases on Monday, and 3 more wards moved into the city’s green list. This result helps the city realize its goal of expanding green zones at the ward level.

Mr Quang is asking authorities at local level to continue their efforts to effectively implement COVID-19 control measures in accordance with the government’s guidelines.

The Da Nang top leader demanded authorities in Thanh Khe, Hai Chau and Cam Le districts to take more drastic measures to prevent the spread of the virus in alleys and apartment buildings which are very high risk places for COVID-19 as many confirmed cases have been identified in such places.

Mr Quang highlighted need for enhancing surveillance on designated quarantine facilities and strengthening prevention measures in an attempt to flatten the curve for COVID-19.

Municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet directed the health agency to take proactive action to roll out the next phase of the city’s vaccination drive as soon as COVID-19 vaccine doses are delivered in the city. The high priority should be given to administering vaccinations for all people who are on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19, Mr Triet emphasized.

Mr Triet stressed the need for authorities at local level to take effective measures to prevent the spread of infection in alleys as such areas are very high risk places for COVID-19.

He also asked the Authority of Da Nang Hi-tech Parks and Industrial Parks to evaluate the effectiveness of the ‘stay-at-work’ solution which are being adopted in companies under their management in order to give advice to the municipal government to continue to apply it in effective and safe practices.

Municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh is urging officials and local residents to stay vigilant in the COVID-19 pandemic, despite a sharp decline in the number of new cases across the city.

He stressed the need for continued vigilance to mitigate virus spread and continued efforts to follow the government’s guidelines to fight COVID-19 in a bid to successfully bring the outbreak under control.

Chairman Chinh is asking tracers and heath officials to beef up contact tracing, isolating and testing efforts to break the chains of transmission. The focus must be on tightening controls at high-risk areas for COVID-19 and taking action against COVID-19 rule violators.
