Da Nang confirmed 96 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, August 16, of which, 51 were in managed isolation, 36 were identified in local lockdown areas and the remainder were detected in the community, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.

Out of the 9 community-acquired cases, 6 were stall holders operating at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, their children and market goers, all of whom had previously come to local medical facilities for COVID-1 testing. Another one was a male resident living in Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District visiting the Thien Nhan Clinic for testing following the displaying of some suspicious symptoms. The remaining  cases comprised a medical staffer at Da Nang Tam Tri Hospital and a young volunteer participating in COVID-19 prevention and control in Hai Chau District.

It is highly concerning that 60 out of the 96 positive cases recorded on Monday were linked to the high-risk cluster of infections at the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, the largest of its kind in Central Viet Nam, bringing to total infections here to 196 till date.

The chain of infection in blockaded areas in Son Tra District is still at high risk with 21 positive cases recorded on Monday, with 5 cases in Man Thai Ward, 1 in An Hai Tay Ward, a combined sum of 15 in Tho Quang and An Hai Dong wards, and all of them are the close contacts of COVID-19 patients put under managed isolation.

Particularly, 3 wards - Nai Hien Dong, An Hai Bac and Phuoc My - did not record any infections  on the same day.

Out of the aforementioned 96 COVID-19 cases, 22 were recorded in Ngu Hanh Son, 21 in Hai Chau and Son Tra each, 11 in Thanh Khe, 13 in Cam Le, 4 in Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang each.
