The number of new recorded coronavirus infections in Da Nang was on August 1 at its highest level to date to hit 76, the latest daily figures show. Included are 15 were detected in the community while 6 others were identified in the ring-fencing hotspots.

Active cases across Da Nang have surpassed 1,000 since the first case arose in the city in March 2020. The city's cases and hospitalizations have spiked over the past three weeks, fueled by the delta variant, to exceed 760.

“Delta variant poses an even greater challenge to virus prevention and control work in Da Nang. We are still finding a significant number of new COVID-19 cases in the community. COVID-19 has spread across the city with rising number of emerging COVID-19 hotspots which have been identified in residential settings. We need take stronger action to tackle the rise in cases linked to the Tho Quang Fishing Port cluster”, the city Party chief emphasized.

Municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh demanded district authorities to set up checkpoints in their localities in an effort to enforce the strict social distancing rules to make sure that everyone is following the municipal stay-at-home order or face hefty fines. The focus should be on providing timely medical advice and practical support for those who need it in addition to raising public awareness of the new regulations to help them take action to protect themselves and their wider community, the city government leader suggested.

Mr Chinh also urged district authorities to prepare an action plan in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in their community.

Chairman Chinh called for urgent and drastic action to break the chains of transmission of such emerging COVID-19 hotspots as Nai Hien Dong Ward and Tho Quang Fishing Wharf with a focus on stepping up contact tracing efforts to reach out to all contacts of COVID-19 confirmed cases in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus.
