Da Nang bans all vessels from going out to sea due to severe weather, prepares for floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain

The Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting predicts moderate to heavy rainfall in Da Nang from Friday afternoon into next Monday, October 25, extreme heavy rains and thunderstorms in some places.

The water level on the Vu Gia River will likely to reach at alarm level 2 and level 3 while that on Da Nang rivers may reach at alert level 1 or above.

Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and severe flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas.

The Da Nang Steering Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue is urging authorities at local level and relevant agencies to take proactive and necessary mitigative measures in response to northeast monsoon and heavy rain which could trigger flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying and riverside areas.

The Da Nang Border Guard Command and Da Nang Coastal Information Station will keep a close watch on severe weather development, and keep owners of vessels operating at sea timely informed about severe weather conditions in order to help them take the initiative to avoid dangerous areas or seek safe shelters during the bad weather.

All vessels are banned from going to sea and are asked to find shelter in order to stay safe during severe weather.

The Da Nang Border Guard Command will work with local police to help tourist boats docking at the Han River move into the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf and the Man Thai Bay to shelter from severe weather conditions with proper precautions against COVID-19 in place.

Authorities at local level are asked to develop active planning for response to flash floods and landslides in their local areas, and prepare an effective evacuation plan for people living in low-lying areas, along rivers and streams and areas that are at high risk of flash floods and landslides in order to move them to safe places with proper precautions against COVID-19 in place. The special attention must be paid to preparing emergency evacuation for people living along Yen, Tuy Loan, and Cu De rivers in Hoa Tien, Hoa Khuong, Hoa Bac, Hoa Lien, Hoa Phu, Hoa Phong, Hoa Son communes, mountainous areas in Hoa Vang Rural District.

Fishing on rivers, low-lying areas and flooded areas in the severe weather are absolutely prohibited. The taskforce will be deployed to areas which are severely flooded by heavy rains in order to protect the safety of road users.

Authorities at local level must assist their residents to prepare for severe weather in an attempt to keep them safe.

The Da Nang Electricity Company must take effective measures to promptly cut off power in heavily flooded areas, and ensure continuity of power supply for flood water pumping stations, as well as repair damage and restore power to businesses and homes after disruptions due to flooding.

Besides, the heed is paid on providing guidance and advice for construction sites to prepare for severe weather.
