Da Nang takes precaution against heavy rains, flash floods, landslides from now till Saturday
The remnants of a recent tropical depression are triggering moderate to very heavy rains in many of the Da Nang’s places from now till October 30, Saturday, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said.
Of special note, on Vu Gia and other rivers in the city, there is a high possibility of floods.
The risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, large floods in riverside and low-lying areas, especially in suburb Hoa Vang and Cam Le districts, is now looming large.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Da Nang Steering Board for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense issued Official Dispatch No. 14/CD-PCTT on responding to heavy rain, flash floods and landslides.
Accordingly, the district-level People's Committees shall notify residents of the development of heavy rains to proactively respond to unexpected incidents and map out evacuation plans to ensure the safety of people's lives and properties, especially those dwelling in low-lying, riverside areas and venues at a high risk of landslides and flash floods.
The municipal Department of Construction must assume the prime responsibility for directing solutions to combat urban flooding.
Also, heed should be paid to closely monitoring on a regular basis the changes of water levels in reservoirs to handle any potential incidents.
