A webinar was co-organised held by the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Japan-based Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Japan's Yokohama City authorities with the aim of discussing solutions to support an on-going landmark project to turn Da Nang into environmentally friendly city in the future.

During the online event, a project on assisting Da Nang to make action plans to respond to climate change and develop low-carbon technologies was launched.

The project was part of bilateral cooperation schemes with Yokohama City on supporting an on-going landmark project to turn Da Nang into environmentally friendly city.

During the online event, leaders of the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment highly appreciated the Yokohama authorities and IGES, along with experts from Japanese universities, for their active support for Da Nang in implementing its project on building an environmentally-friendly city.

Also, the Department agreed with some IGES-proposed cooperative programmes supported by the Japanese Ministry of Environment.

Specifically, as for the action plan to respond to climate change in Da Nang, the focus will be on reducing greenhouse gas emissions arising from energy, buildings, transportation, industries, agriculture and waste treatment activities, as well as implementing climate change adaptation solutions for natural ecosystems, urban planning, water supply, food, and disaster management.

With regard to low-carbon technology models, an industrial park in the city will be chosen to conduct a feasibility study on the situation of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in industrial parks, thereby proposing energy-efficient alternatives.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment requested the Authority of Da Nang's Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks to work closely with the local Environmental Protection Sub-Department, the project's managers and Japanese enterprises to conduct the project soon.
