If a woman finds out she’s pregnant after receiving 1st dose of a COVID19 vaccine, should she get the 2nd dose?

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Sy Hung, Deputy Director of the Reproductive Health Centre under the National Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology, pregnant women who receive a coronavirus vaccine had COVID-19 antibodies in their umbilical cord blood. However, getting the second shot can help you reach the full level of protection against the virus.

“At this time, there’s no evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine increases risks for unborn babies in the first trimester, so if a woman gets the first dose of the vaccine around the time she gets pregnant, it’s recommended that she go ahead and get the second shot according to her doctor's instructions or wait until after 12 weeks of pregnancy” says Mr Hung.
