1,000 multifunctional life jackets given to Da Nang fishermen

On November 16, the Viet Nam Red Cross Society held a ceremony in Da Nang to give 1,000 sets of multifunctional life jackets to fishermen in difficult circumstances in Son Tra and Thanh Khe districts in order to help them reduce occupational hazards at sea, especially during the upcoming rainy and stormy seasons.

Present at the donation ceremony were former President and former Honourary President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society Truong Tan Sang, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Association Vu Thanh Luu, Secretary of Da Nang Party Committee cum Head of the municipal National Assembly Deputies' delegation Nguyen Van Quang, and municipal People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen.

During the programme, former President Truong Tan Sang, together with leaders of the Viet Nam Red Cross Association and Da Nang, directly presented 30 sets of multifunctional life jackets to fishermen in Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward. Meanwhile, the remainder will be given to fishermen in Son Tra and Thanh Khe districts by representatives from the Da Nang Red Cross Society in November. The total value of such gifts is more than VND1.26 billion.

In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Association Vu Thanh Luu remarked the donation of multifunctional life jackets aimed to ensure the safety of fishermen when fishing offshore, and encourage them to continue maintaining their legal fishing activities in order to protecting the national sovereignty over its sea and islands, as well as celebrate 75th anniversary of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society’s birthday (November 23, 1946 -2021). He added sets of multifunctional life jackets included many useful tools to help fishermen survive at sea for at least 8 days in case of accidents or natural disasters.

On behalf of the Da Nang’s leaders and fishermen, Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen expressed her deep gratitude to former President Truong Tan Sang, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society and sponsors for the practical gifts for local fishermen.

On this occasion, former President Truong Tan Sang gave 15,000 sets of multifunctional life jackets, raised from generous donors nationwide, to poor offshore fishermen in 12 coastal cities and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa.
