Flood warnings issued for rivers in Central Viet Nam after heavy rain

Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has stated that there is a significant risk of potential flooding from rivers in the parts from Thua Thien- Hue to Binh Thuan, and Central Highlands from Monday into Wednesday, December 1.

The water level on rivers in the warning areas is likely to hit its peak to reach at alert level 1 or above. In detail, the water level on rivers in Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan and Ba River in Phu Yen will reach at alert levels 1 to 2 or above while that on rivers in Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, and Ky Lo River in Phu Yen will reach at alert levels 2 to 3 or above.

Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas and urban areas in the parts from from Thua Thien- Hue to Binh Thuan, including Da Nang. It is still essential to be aware of your risk of reservoir flooding in these areas.

The Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting predicts that light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue lashing Da Nang, with heavy to extremely heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some places due to the strong influence of an intense cold front and the upper-tropospheric easterly winds. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

Between 60mm and 160mm of rain is forecast for Hoa Vang, Cam Le, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, with some places expected to receive over 180mm. As much as 50mm -120mm of rain could fall in Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe and Hai Chau districts, and even more than 150mm in some places.
