Prolonged spell of heavy rain forecast for Central Viet Nam
Central Viet Nam could be in for a prolonged spell of heavy and persistent rain through this week, Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has said.
Moderate to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue across Central Viet Nam until Sunday, November 14 due to the combined influence of cold air and the upper-tropospheric easterly winds, the national forecasters warned. Thunderstorms are likely to occur and can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.
The heavy rain in the region could see between 250mm and 400mm fall in Thua Thien- Hue, northern Quang Nam and Da Nang, with up to more than 500mm possible in some places.
As much as 400mm-700mm of rain could fall in parts from the south of Quang Nam to Phu Yen, and even more than 800 mm in some places.
Parts from Thua Thien- Hue to Khanh Hoa, including Da Nang, are expected to see persistent torrential rain through the week that could pose a severe flooding threat to the warning areas from Tuesday into next Monday, November 15.
The water level on rivers in Thua Thien- Hue is likely to hit its peak to reach at alert level 1 to 2, and even above alert level 2 in some rivers while that on rivers from Quang Nam to Khanh Hoa will reach at alert level 2 to 3, and even above alert level 3 in some rivers.
Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas and urban areas in the parts from Thua Thien- Hue to Khanh Hoa, including Da Nang.
