Vietnamese localities plan to administer booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines
In order to create a basis for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines nationwide in November and December and develop vaccination plans in 2022 as well, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health has asked the municipal/ provincial People's Committees to make statistics on the number of children by age groups, namely 3 - 11, 12 - 15 and 16 - 17 and proposed the demand for vaccines in these age groups.
Localities should simultaneously develop plans to use COVID-19 vaccines in 2022 for children aged 3 and above, and adults, and especially, administer the 3rd and 4th doses for those who have already received a full 2-dose course.
The third shot is meant for people who got the second shot six months to one year ago depending on the kind of vaccine, according to the recommendations from vaccine manufacturers and the World Health Organisation.
According to the Ministry of Health, from now until the end of 2021, Viet Nam will receive new batches of COVID-19 vaccines. Localities nationwide must, therefore, speed up first-dose immunization coverage, especially for people aged 65 so as to protect this subject group against the risk of the highly contagious disease.
Immunisation facilities are required to use electronic health book platforms to manage and track vaccination progress, perfect the PC-COVID app, ensuring the safety and security of people's information.
As of November 1, Viet Nam had vaccinated more than 82 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. In detail, about 24.5 million people have received 2 jabs.
The rate of injecting at least one dose of vaccines is 78.5% and more than 33.1% of the population aged 18 and over have received 2 shots.
