Da Nang announces 236 new COVID-19 patients on Dec. 15

The current coronavirus resurgence in Da Nang still shows no signs of subsiding as its COVID-19 daily caseload reached 236 on Wednesday, December 15, of which 80 were acquired in the community, four at centralised quarantine facilities, 136 during at-home quarantine and the remaining 16 in locked-down residential sites, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control confirmed.

Among the 80 community-acquired patients documented on Wednesday, there were nine employees at the Thuan Phuoc company, one worker at the Hoa Phat Steel Pipe Factory, one medical worker each at the Da Nang Maternity – Pediatrics and Oncology hospitals, one member of a COVID-19 prevention and control force in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, four residents detected via mass testing rollouts applied to local household representatives, known as the ‘One door- one test’ campaign in Hoa Khanh Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, four public servants, and 22 infections found via rapid antigen tests conducted by local medical staff.

The remaining community-acquired patients were local dwellers who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 through tests conducted at some medical facilities citywide during their visits there for COVID-19 tests or regular medical checkups.

In particular, of the day's tally, 149 cases were at a high risk of further community transmission, local experts warned.

The day also recorded some notable chains of infection such as the Matrix company with 12 positive cases of COVID-19, the Thuan Phuoc company with 33, the Mabuchi company with four, and Vo Truong Toan Street located in An Hai Bac Ward with nine.

Amongst the local districts, Son Tra logged the highest number of COVID-19 infections on Wednesday with 122, followed by Lien Chieu with 63, Hai Chau with 15, Thanh Khe with 14 , Cam Le with 12 , Hoa Vang with eight and Ngu Hanh Son with two.

Also on the same day, a combined total of 20,179 local residents across the city had their nasal swab samples taken for COVID-19 testing, 17,981 of whom tested for the virus via the RT-PCR technique whilst the rest were subject to the rapid antigen testing.

Till date, of the vaccinated people throughout Da Nang, 966,683 have received the first shots of COVID-19 vaccines whilst 919,501 have got two doses against the highly contagious disease.

There are currently 236 completely- blockaded residential areas, putting 1,137 households with a combined total of 5,069 people under lockdown.

A combined total of 449 people are being put under compulsory quarantine in 18 centralised facilities.

The number of new cases mentioned above has pushed Da Nang’s total tally to 3,630 since October 16 when the city saw the resurgence of COVID-19 community transmission, 150 of which were returnees from other cities and provinces nationwide
