Da Nang confirmed an additional 143 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, December 19, of which 33 were acquired in the community and the remainder were logged under managed isolation, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said.

These figures showed a fact that the city saw a decline both in its daily caseload and the number of community-acquired infections as compared to the previous days.

Among the 33 community-acquired patients documented on Sunday, there was an employee at the Huu Nghi Compan, whilst the rest were local dwellers who were positive for SARS-CoV-2 through tests conducted at some public and private medical facilities citywide during their visits there for COVID-19 tests due to the displaying of suspicious symptoms.

In addition to the detection of the aforementioned cases of community transmission on Sunday, the city documented 110 infections in managed isolation:  10 at centralised quarantine facilities, 76 during at-home quarantine and 24 in locked-down residential site.

In particular, of the day's tally, 87 cases were at a high risk of further community transmission.

The day also recorded some notable chains of infection such as Niwa Foundry Company with three cases), Vincoland Apartment at 1 Le Thanh Nghi with five and residential group No. 84 in An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District with seven.

Amongst the local districts, Son Tra documented the highest number of COVID-19 infections on Sunday with 42, followed by Lien Chieu with 32, Thanh Khe and Hai Chau with 21 each, Hoa Vang and Cam Le with nine each and Ngu Hanh Son with six.

There were also three coronavirus-infected returnees from other cities and provinces nationwide.

Also on the same day, a combined total of 11,806 local residents across the city had their nasal swab samples taken for COVID-19 testing, 10,814 of whom tested for the virus via the RT-PCR technique whilst the rest were subject to the rapid antigen testing.

Till date, of the vaccinated people throughout Da Nang, 966,856 have received the first jabs of COVID-19 vaccines whilst 922,807 have got two doses, and 467 have received the third shots against the highly contagious disease.

There are currently 316 completely- blockaded residential areas, putting 1,468 households with a combined total of 6,279 people under lockdown.

A combined total of 366 people are being put under compulsory quarantine in 18 centralised facilities.

The number of new cases mentioned above has pushed Da Nang’s total tally to 4.372 since October 16 when the city saw the resurgence of COVID-19 community transmission, 172 of which were returnees from other cities and provinces nationwide
