Da Nang releases new safety advice for SUP players
The Da Nang Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Tourist Beaches has just released new safety advice for players of SUP (Stand-up paddleboarding), an outdoor water sports activity where a rider stands up on a large board and uses a paddle to move through the water.
SUP players should avoid take paddles in extreme weather and rough seas, operating too far from the shore nor using stimulants when participating in SUP activities if they have suffered bone, joint, cardiovascular and neurological diseases for a long time.
They must wear life jackets and safety harnesses on their legs as well during SUP paddles, travel in groups for mutual support when getting into unexpected distress and contact rescue and order forces on duty in the waters for safety instructions.
Also, they are banned from diving into coral protection zones without official permission.
The national government has not yet issued detailed regulations on the management of this water sport. Therefore, when detecting unsafe situations, people can inform the competent authority via phone calls to 02362.218.878.
