Da Nang reports additional 212 new COVID-19 cases on Dec. 16

The current coronavirus resurgence in Da Nang still shows no signs of subsiding as its COVID-19 daily caseload reached 212 on Thursday, December 16, of which 60 were acquired in the community, one at centralised quarantine facilities, 114 during at-home quarantine and the remaining 37 in locked-down residential sites, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control confirmed.

Among the 60 community-acquired patients documented on Thursday, there were one at the Hoa Cam Market, three at the Hoa Khanh Market, one at the Danapha Pharmaceutical Company, one patient going to the Lien Chieu Medical Center for a PCR test, one public servant working at the Ngu Hanh Son People's Committee, six found via rapid antigen tests conducted by local medical staff and nine detected via rapid antigen tests carried out by themselves.

The remaining community-acquired patients were local dwellers who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 through tests conducted at some medical facilities citywide during their visits there for COVID-19 tests or regular medical checkups.

In particular, of the day's tally, 140 cases were at a high risk of further community transmission.

The day also recorded some notable chains of infection such as the Matrix company with nine, Mabuchi Company with seven, residential group No. 1, Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District with nine,  residential group No. 2 in Truong Dinh village, Hoa Lien Commune, Hoa Vang District with six and residential group No. 73 in Thanh Vinh, Hoa Khanh Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District with seven.

Amongst the local districts, Lien Chieu logged the highest number of COVID-19 infections on Thursday with 67, followed by Son Tra with 60, Thanh Khe with 31, Hai Chau with 22, Hoa Vang with 17, Cam Le with nine and Ngu Hanh Son with five.

Also on the same day, a combined total of 16,306 local residents across the city had their nasal swab samples taken for COVID-19 testing, 13,729 of whom tested for the virus via the RT-PCR technique whilst the rest were subject to the rapid antigen testing.

Till date, of the vaccinated people throughout Da Nang, 966,704 have received the first shots of COVID-19 vaccines whilst 920,230 have got two doses against the highly contagious disease.

There are currently 249 completely- blockaded residential areas, putting 1,233 households with a combined total of 5,420 people under lockdown.

A combined total of 434 people are being put under compulsory quarantine in 18 centralised facilities.

The number of new cases mentioned above has pushed Da Nang’s total tally to 3,842 since October 16 when the city saw the resurgence of COVID-19 community transmission, 151 of which were returnees from other cities and provinces nationwide
