On Nguyen Phuoc Nguyen Street, An Khe Ward, an about 100m-long section of wall is impressively adorned with vivid images with bright colours. Talking about this work, Mr. Do Van Thanh, the Secretary of the Youth Union chapter of An Khe Ward, said that, in response to the art mural painting contest themed ‘I love my Fatherland’ jointly organised by his agency, the municipal Culture - Sports Centre, the municipal Women's Union (WU), a section of Nguyen Phuoc Nguyen was selected to carry out the painting of art murals.
After discussions and comprehensive appraisement, the idea for the large painting themed ‘Proud of Vietnamese youth’ consisting of 12 small separate works placed in succession, was born. The ‘artists’ applied a new layer of paint to replace the old walls.
Each work highlights an activity that the An Khe Youth Union chapter has carried out in recent years, such as building a play area for children, planting trees, sorting waste, joining hands to protect the living environment, participating in ‘Green - clean - beautiful Sunday’ campaign .
“Through the creation of such impressive murals, we want to bring the fresh look to the local streets”, Mr. Thanh shared.
In a similar vein, a wall of the Tran Cao Van Primary School on Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Tan Chinh Ward has got a ‘new coat’ with an artistic mural highlighting Viet Nam's beauty. The work recreates a unique charming landscape of the North - Central - South.
Chairwoman of the Women's Union chapter of Tan Chinh Ward Pham Thi Thuy Hanh said, “Choosing the school as a venue for the creation of murals, we want children to admire the beauty of their homeland every day,”.
The remaining wards across the district have come up with their own ideas for murals such as Xuan Ha Ward with the initiative of protecting and preserving the sea and islands, Thac Gian with the theme of Da Nang’s charming scenery, Chinh Gian highlighting district’s vitality and Vinh Trung with the idea of depicting fishing villages.
Art mural painting activities has attracted a great deal of public attention. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a resident on Hoang Hoa Tham Street said that, seeing mass organisations participating in painting, she and many other dwellers living nearby came to the scene to see how pieces of artworks were created by enthusiastic ‘painters’, and showed a lot of interest.
“The murals inspire a great love for the country among the people and promote them to actively protect the clean and beautiful environment. Paintings are far more effective than a multitude of words or publicity activities”, said Lan.
Not only are they spontaneous works, now many wards choose to create murals with different themes to highlight the message they want to convey. With the theme ‘I love my motherland’, local ‘artists’ show their great love for their hometowns, and the country as a whole, from many different angles. Not only do the works serve as publicity means but they contribute to adorning the streets and alleys for the sake of green, clean and beautiful landscapes in the city.
