No major damage in Da Nang after storm Rai
The coast along the Hoang Sa - Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa route and the embankment along Nhu Nguyet Street remain safe although large waves caused by storm Rai broke against Da Nang coast. There are no reports of injuries or severe damage in Da Nang from the storm.

The Da Nang Steering Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue on Monday said that storm Rai brought high winds and heavy rain to Da Nang but no major damage or casualties are reported. Cleanup efforts are being carried out on Monday in Da Nang following storm Rai. Sanitation crew members are being deployed across the city to clear debris from beaches and clean storm drains.
Viet Nam’s National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said that storm Rai produced strong winds at level 14, and gusts of level 17 in Song Tu Tay Island in Khanh Hoa, high winds at level 8, and the gusts as high as level 10 in Ly Son Island, gusty winds at level 7, and the gusts reaching level 8 in Sa Huynh in Quang Ngai.
As a result, the coastal areas from Quang Ngai to Phu Yen have 11 landslide areas which are extremely dangerous with a total length of 13.35 km, of which, 8 sites with a total length of 9.9 km are reported in Quang Ngai while 3 others with a length of 3.45 km are reported in Phu Yen.
Local crew members have been deployed to affected areas in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Phu Yen to repair landslides. Included are the embankments on the Phu Thuan Beach in Phu Vang District, Thua Thien- Hue Province, Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province, the Ward 6 in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province.
Five fishing boats have reportedly sunk in the waters of Binh Thuan Province while 3 others were damaged by the storm at the anchorage area in this province. In addition, 120 floating breeding cages for the shrimps were destroyed in Khanh Hoa Province.
In Song Tu Tay and Da Nam islands belong to Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, 2 wind measuring poles fell down, 90% of the trees were damaged, 27 solar panels were destroyed, and roof area of 500m2 were damaged in storm Rai.
Viet Nam’s National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control is urging affected localities to continue guiding vessels operating at sea to not move into storm dangerous areas, especially boats operating in the waters of the North of the East Sea.
Affected areas namely Thua Thien- Hue, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, islands, especially islands belong the Truong Sa Archipelago are asked to speed up recovery efforts from storm Rai.
The heed must be paid on must be putting disaster preparedness and resilience into action to prepare for severe weather in order to ensure the safety of crew members and their boats operating at sea.
